Top Ten Fashion Trends for 2009

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
www.massvisioninc.com asked:

1. LONG AND LANGUID WATERFALL EARRINGS: Goodbye reserved earrings, hello big, dramatic, modern styles. Waterfall earrings race front and forward, brushing the shoulder and filled with a fluid, smooth movement. See them especially in silver-plate, some rather intricate in design, others clean, long, shimmering slivers bringing light and vitality to the face.

TRY SOMETHING NEW FOR THE NEW YEAR: A perfect choice for change is an elegant earrings set with two lines of textured metal drops that spiral down from small metal chains. These ultra-modern beauties are long!

2. GEOMETRICS: It’s a mathematical wonderland out there! If you loved geometry, this is your year! Squares, triangles, circles, and rectangles are all heating up the runways. Polka dots are making graphic history. Stripes are super hot. Straight lines, diagonal lines, lines crossing each other, touching each other, going every which way: they’re all big trend news for the year.

3. LONG, LOOSE, COMFORTABLE DRESSES: They may have been shorter back in the forties, but ladies used to call them house dresses. Now, they’re long, upgraded, more formal, but still expressing the same idea: Comfortable dresses, mostly for the home (although, in today’s liberal environment, you could go from work to the beach in them, without raising any eyebrows). Some people are calling them day gowns, which pretty well says it. Prints are extravagant, colors are often intense, and jewelry is mandatory!

JAZZ UP THE NEW DRESSES WITH EASY-TO-WEAR JEWELRY: What could be better than faux pearl spaced with fine link chain? In light grey and looking very much like those terribly expensive South Sea pearls, this double row necklace is a beautiful closeout piece!

4. STATEMENT JEWELRY: We’ve been talking about this hot trend for over a year now, and things haven’t abated one bit. If anything, statement jewelry is getting hotter. Styles are getting bigger, more individualistic. Look for items with a one-of-a-kind mystique to them, jewelry that preferably evokes thoughts of exotic ports-of-call.

SIZE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Big and small combine in this beautiful necklace made up of 15 strands of tiny Bohemian glass beads gently twisted together for a high fashion look. The large overall look resonates in amber, gold, white, and bronze. Exquisite!

5. TORTOISE SHELL SUNGLASSES: Are these ever great shades? Boasting frames of the perennially chic tortoise shell, they add a glamorous note of luxury to any wardrobe. But don’t stop there! Pay attention, too, to aviator shades, the biggest and hottest look of the year!

6. INSECT INVASION: Watch out! The insects are coming and you could be eaten alive! Spiders lead the way, embellishing handbags, jewelry, everything fashionable. Butterflies aren’t far behind the (spider) binge, gently flittering around the field. Even dragonflies are keeping insect repellents going. Adding to the fray: A new generation of accessorizing alligators, crocodiles, and other not-so-lovable reptiles are coming on stream. Oh, this is a 12-year boy’s dream!

LOOK AT WHAT WE HAVE FOR YOU: Dragonflies, butterflies, and colorful peacock pins. But none can compare with the splendid sparkle of a rhinestone spider brooch (Yes! We said spider!) silently, ominously awaiting its prey.

7. CHUNKY COCKTAIL RINGS: Think wonderful faux gemstones, some cabochon, some exquisitely faceted, all obviously faux only by their size. This is a Romanoff-mimicking jewelry trend, with everything super-big, super-rich, super-extravagant. Rings, especially, are phenomenal, with huge center stones surrounded by more sparkling faux stones, set in silver- or gold-plate, enjoying a one-of-a-kind-like expression.

GET THE LOOK FOR PART OF THE PRICE: Consider enameled cubic zirconium rings for real impact. Murano glass rings are super-trendy, in exciting colors and modern design.

8. SHINE: Everything is slippery, shiny, light-reflective! Materials like satin, taffeta and Asian silks take shine to a new level. Patent leather shoes and handbags, especially done in bright oranges, greens, and blues, give pop to an outfit. Leather is an all-time shine wardrobe factor. Embroideries, sequins, crystals, embellishments of all sorts turn ordinary dresses into Princess-worthy gowns.

9. MIXED METALS: Time was nobody thought of mixing gold and silver together; you wore one or the other. But then Southwestern designers came onto the scene, and nothing has been the same since. They heavily promoted mixed metals with their unique and highly creative designs, first mixing sterling silver with gold-plate, and later branching out into fine jewelry with real gold.

Now another surge of interest in mixed metals is showing how well silver and gold really go together. The mix can be in one piece of jewelry, or as two separate pieces, worn together. Either way, you get a dynamite, modern expression of richness and beauty together. Two-tone jewelry without the high price-tag.

IT’S EASY TO MIX METALS: But if you want it done for you, think about some wonderful bracelets like a super-modern spiral design cuff that evolves repeatedly from silver-plate circle with gold-spiral tips to another circle to another. Very fashion forward.

10. INSANELY HIGH SPIKE HEELS: These torturous foot traps just won’t go away. And while everyone is raving about the remarkably creative designs showing up in shoes right now (which we don’t deny), nobody takes issue with the present and future health consequences of these wildly overdone, extravagant shoes. But there you are. They aren’t good for you. But wow! Are they ****!

—And that’s where it’s at, folks, as the sales go on…

Choosing Easy-care Shrubs

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
Ted Roberson asked:

Shrubs tend to be the centerpiece of most people’s front yard gardening. I think that’s because shrubs are easy, but they’re also expected. Homes without a row of shrubs lining the front look kind of ***** and unloved.

But it can be difficult choosing the right shrubs for your yard. There are so many possibilities and so many conditions in front yards that no one shrub is going to be perfect for every situation. I think what most people are looking for in their shrubs, though, is something that is easy to care for.

Shrubs are something you don’t want to have to think about, you just want to plant them and have them survive with a minimum of watering and pruning. And if you’re looking for easy-care shrubs, evergreen shrubs simply can’t be beat.

Evergreen shrubs are the perfect combination of easy good looks and minimum care. They look good year round, which is perfect for something that’s in your front yard where everyone can see it all the time.

When I moved into my current home, the front yard was filled with a bunch of evergreen boxwood shrubs. These little evergreens are super-easy to grow and will look good with almost no care. If you take the time to water them occasionally, they will reward you with more growth.

Though they’re called “evergreens,” boxwood shrubs grown in the sun will actually turn orange in the winter. I think they’re prettier than the plain old green ones, and we actually kept our boxwood that were in the sun and got rid of the ones in the shade (they turn green again when it warms in the spring).

We replaced the boxwood shrubs we got rid of with evergreen azaleas. Azaleas are one of the stars of the shady garden, producing beautiful and bright flowers in the spring. The rest of the time they look nice, too, with small, waxy, dark green leaves. The azaleas are a little more work than the boxwood was; we water them through the summer and apply acid once or twice a year. Still, not much effort for solidly beautiful shrubs.

Another good choice for shade is hydrangeas, which have big puffballs of flowers in the late spring or early summer (some also bloom in fall). Hydrangeas are fun because the plants that bloom pink or blue can actually bloom different colors depending on the condition of the soil. A low pH (acid soil) makes blue blooms, while a very alkaline soil makes hydrangeas bloom pink. Even if you buy a plant that is supposed to bloom the other color, the pH of your soil may give the plant other ideas. (Like azaleas, not all hydrangeas are evergreen, so be sure to check the label.)

Holly shrubs are another good choice, and they make a nice hedgerow if you have an expanse of house that you want to cover up. They’ll need pruning to stay looking nice and to keep their shape, but they are worth it because they make these beautiful, large, lush shrubs that have berries in the winter, which bring color to the yard and attract birds.

Leaving the world of evergreens, for an informal sunny garden, butterfly bush is a great choice. These shrubs have huge cones of colorful flowers that bloom in high summer and are very attractive to butterflies (and bees, so be careful planting these if someone in your household is allergic to beestings). Some varieties of butterfly bush are huge, growing up to six feet tall and five or six feet wide. If you don’t have room for that kind of commitment, smaller hybrids are now available.

Those shopping for shrubs in the Deep South for sunny spots should also consider crape myrtle. These large bushes or small trees make great quick-growing hedges. New cultivars bloom twice a year or have extra-long blooming periods. This is another great shrub for attracting butterflies and other fun insects.

Easy-care shrubs make a great foundation for your flower garden, whether in the front yard or back yard. When these reliable performers are in place you can focus your attention on the fun stuff: planting and caring for your flowers and other plants.

How Does the Law of Attraction Explain How Bad Things Happen to Good People?

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
Anisa Aven asked:

The Universal Laws operate on a consistent, orderly, impartial and uniform basis.

Although this truth is harsh and even unfathomable when we think about the victims of September 11th, 2001; or the abuse or murder of a child, or even the senseless destruction of our planet, for example, the Universal Law is operating in Divine Order, never the less.

I’ll be honest, although I have my theories, I don’t ‘get’ the meaning or the purpose of it all, and I certainly would not be so arrogant as to proclaim to have the ONLY answer to this profound question or to ‘How did they attract this?’

Never the less, I am unshakeable in my gratitude for the consistency of the Laws. From my perspective, it is this truth – that the laws are consistent and dependable – that makes life livable.

If I thought that some indiscriminate force could simply bluster into my life ripping my world apart, as if the law of chaos granted the winds of destruction the right to randomly wreak havoc, then life and my role in it would be meaningless. If there really was such a ‘random force’ I’d scream, ‘then what’s the point?!?!’

On the other hand, there is also no way that anyone could convince me that an infant ‘attracted’ abuse through negative thinking. That just doesn’t match what we know about the pure love that is an infant’s gift.

Therefore, for my personal peace, I have reached for an explanation that attempts to consolidate what I believe to be true, as of today, about the Universal Laws and the Spiritual nature of life.

First, there is the fact that Creation is Teleological. Teleology is the study of final causes – especially as it relates to circumstance and events leading up to the final event.

We see this law time after time in nature. For example, the Lodgepole Pine Tree, the most widespread tree in the British Columbia province, cannot propagate without its cone being exposed to extreme heat, as in the heat from a forest fire. No fire (death) = no new trees (birth).

When we think about the ramifications of this fact, we then realize that it was not the lightning bolt that caused the fire, but the end result (natural reforestation) that indeed inspired the original lightning bolt and thus the fire.

Then we have the second verity that there are multiple levels of consciousness and many layers of energetic frequencies, intentions and super-intentions that collectively co-create our experiences.

For example, one such layer of consciousness has been observed in the study of past-lives. Whether we believe in reincarnation or not doesn’t negate the fact that millions of patients have discovered that their present day illness (allergy, disease, phobia, etc.) is connected to strong emotions, thoughts, actions, experiences (etc.) that occurred during a past life. Once discovered, many patients are able to recover from their malady.

Carl Jung, well-known psychologist and mystic, called this the ‘collective unconscious’ or ‘universal memory’. This of course implies that we are collectively influenced by the thoughts, emotions, and beliefs of the collective whole.

Thus we are now led to yet another layer of consciousness: the collective consciousness aka the global consciousness.

Here’s an interesting fact that illustrates how influential the ‘global consciousness’ can be:

There’s an African culture that believes all children born on Wednesdays are the devil’s offspring. To prove their belief is true all one has to do is look to the fact that more than half of the crimes committed in their culture are by those Wednesday children. Is it Wednesday that causes the problem or the global belief, we ask?

Combining the principle of teleology with the many layers of consciousness we find answers. I’m not suggesting the answers are satisfactory or comforting, but they are at least answers that are congruent with what we believe about the Universal Laws of creation.

Consider, for example, the evolutionary changes that, as far as I can tell, always ensues chaos, destruction and tragedy. We can’t help but wonder if somehow super-intentions along with the multiple layers of consciousness were at work inspiring the end result?

Viktor Frankl, considered one of the most profoundly influential psychiatrists of our time wrote in his book, Man’s Search for Meaning:

“We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms–to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” (-Viktor Frankl, M.D., Ph.D., (March 26, 1905 – September 2, 1997) was an Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist, and Holocaust survivor.)

Imagine for a moment that Victor Frankl’s story, listed as one of the ten most influential books in America, had never happened? Is it possible that the Divine Order (possibly his soul-choice) inspired not only his **** concentration camp experience but his survival as a match to his higher calling; a match to a super-intention? If his life purpose was to arouse the spiritual liberation of millions of souls that found his work then who are we to say that what occurred for him was not a match?

Considering the teleological nature of life, the multiple layers of consciousness, and super-intentions we find at the very minimum, food for thought.

This does not cancel out the impermeable fact that we still have free will and when combined with awareness, we can at any point choose to intentionally direct our experience using the Law of Attraction. It just may be that the way we ‘thought’ we wanted it and the way we ‘really’ wanted it are not always the same.

By accepting that all is well, all the time, we actually tap into the stream of well being that will take us through one ‘negative’ experience and into the meaning and purpose beyond. This is where passionate living can really flourish.

I was at a Dr. David Hawkin’s lecture (he’s the best-selling author of Power vs. Force) when something he said shook me to the core. With as much emphasis as a mid-day yawn he said, (I paraphrase):

A soul chooses its date of death prior to birth. And, on that date they simply transition from this plane to the next. Like a butterfly squished on your car window, they just keep flapping their ethereal wings.

What if our souls make choices before we arrive concerning our time of death and our purpose while in physical form? Wouldn’t these decisions then co-create with the intentions and beliefs of the moment to fulfill this ‘fate by soul-choice?’

One last personal example, the magnitude of which I did comprehend until many, many years later, happened the summer before my freshman year of high school. My best friend, Zena, was killed in a car accident. I was devastated. And, I was angry. I was angry because I had been denied one last visit with Zena before her accident. My father said no because he needed my help in the family antique business.

Losing Zena AND being denied the freedom to see her caused an internal chain of events that became the foundation upon which I create my life today. It was this loss that caused me to fearlessly seize my life. My motto became, “I will never let an opportunity go by without seizing it. I don’t care what the consequences may be. If I have to defy orders, fail, get into trouble and risk everything to be free and fulfill my dreams – I will. Never again will I be denied.” You see, Zena was a poet and I still have her poems today. The poems she wrote as an 11-year-old child were about living your dreams. Zena’s spirit has never stopped inspiring me.

Of course my original motto got me into quite a bit of trouble, as you can imagine. However, I eventually settled into a more vibrationally aligned manifesto: “I choose to live every moment fearlessly and passionately, as if it were my last opportunity

Without this experience, in my soul, I know my life would have been very, very different and I also know I would not be living the life of my dreams today, not the way I do now.

As a mother, this wouldn’t ease my pain but as a spiritual student, I find all of these and other spiritual truths helpful in finding meaning within suffering.

And, what if that was both the cause and the purpose?

Hazed and Confused Part Two. Interview With Indy Legend Miss Chiff

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
Massimo Martinini asked:

Good Morning, Afternoon and Evening and welcome yet again to another fun packed edition of Hazed & Confused. Since the last article the Indy scene seems to be in full swing, with quite a few events held over the past few weeks and future events being booked.

CZW recently held their tenth anniversary show in The Arena, Philadelphia.

Quick results from the event are as follows:

1. Drew Gulak defeated Little Mondo

2. Sami Callihan defeated Jon Dahmer

3. Adam Cole and Tyler Veritas won the “Old vs. New” Tag Team Gauntlet

- The order of entrants, and order of elimination is as follows:

- The S.A.T. defeated L.J. Cruz and Izzy Kensington

- 2.0 defeated the S.A.T.

- Cole and Veritas defeated 2.0

- Cole and Veritas defeated A.M.I.L.

- Cole and Veritas defeated GNC (Gacy and Colon)

4. Sabian defeated Ego Fantastico

5. Drew Blood defeated Pinkie Sanchez

6. The Best Around and El Sexisto defeated 2 Girls 1 Cup and Lord Everett Devore

7. Devon Moore defeated Ruckus

8. Ryan McBride defeated Carter Gray to retain the Jr. Heavyweight Title

9. The H8 Club defeated Brain Damage and Deranged in a Fans Bring The Weapons Match

After seeing this on DVD, it had to be one of the most brutal matches in CZW’s history.

The H8 Club took advantage early, using, believe it or not, a machete to carve and gouge at the eye of Deranged, rendering him useless, and allowing them to gain a virtual 2-on-1 on Brain Damage.

The H8 Club finished Brain Damage with a huge Superplex off the top through a barbed wire laden door, propped on chairs.

What happened next was to the surprise of everyone in the Arena…

10. Sami Callihan defeated Brain Damage to become the NEW CZW Iron Man Champion

Callihan stormed the ring with Referee Nick Pappagiorgio wrapped up in a blanket over his shoulder, and shoveled the unwilling official into the ring.

With the threat of a chair and further aggression, Pappagiorgio sanctioned an immediate match up, where Callihan picked up the H8 Club’s scraps, added a few more unneeded blows, and pinned an already beaten Brain Damage to win the Iron Man Championship.

11. Drake Younger defeated Eddie Kingston in a No Rope Barbed Wire Match to retain the CZW World Heavyweight Championship

Also, for those who have been following my articles, you will know that I keep mentioning the Chikara run tournament, King Of Trio’s coming up at the end of March, well all 16 teams have now been announced and are as follows:

1. The Masters of a Thousand Holds (Mike Quackenbush, Jorge “Skayde” Rivera & Johnny Saint)

2. The Osirian Portal (Ophidian, Amasis & Escorpion Egipcio)

3. Incoherence (Hallowicked, Delirious & Frightmare)

4. Team PWG (El Generico, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson)

5. The Future Is Now (Lince Dorado, Helios & Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen)

6. The Death Match Kings (Necro Butcher, Toby Klein & Brain Damage)

7. The F1RST Family (Arik Cannon, Darin Corbin & Ryan Cruz)

8. Da Soul Touchaz (Willie Richardson, Trauma & Marshe Rockett)

9. Team CZW (Beef Wellington, Pinkie Sanchez & Greg Excellent)

10. The Cold Front (Al Snow, Iceberg & Glacier)

11. F.I.S.T. (Gran Akuma, Chuck Taylor & Icarus)

12. The Roughnecks (Brodie Lee, Eddie Kingston & Grizzly Redwood)

13. Team Uppercut (Claudio Castagnoli, Dave Taylor & Bryan Danielson)

14. Team EPIC WAR (Austin Aries, Tony Kozina & Ryan Drago)

15. The UnStable (Vin Gerard, STIGMA & Colin Delaney)

16. Team DDT (Kota Ibushi, KUDO & Michael Nakazawa)

Quite an impressive collection of teams there and pretty hard for me to pick a favorite to win the tournament, with most of the teams having a very good chance at doing so. Though I imagine I’m not the only one hoping to see a “HEAD” Shot in the tournament.

So anyway, I decided to do something different and special from the other articles here at TWG and after some thinking I decided that it would be great to actually interview an Indy wrestler.

So with nothing to lose, I sent an email out to my personal favorite Indy wrestler, Mike Quackenbush, and much to my surprise he agreed to answer a few questions for me and some suggested by other people at TWG.

Due to his work and schedule however, the answers are fairly short but I hope you will agree with me that Quackenbush doing this interview for me is nothing short of awesomeness.

So without further delay, an interview with Quack…

Thank you Mike for joining me on Hazed & Confused, hopefully you’re the first of many exclusive interviews.

Most of my readers will know you mainly from Chikara and some as the current NWA Junior Champion.

I have asked some of the games members to think of questions to ask you, and we have quite a mixed bunch..

We’ll start off with some wrestling based ones and finish off with some random questions…

So without further delay on with the questions…

1) Did you have any major setbacks starting in the business?

–The fact that I wasn’t properly trained when I had my earliest matches was a huge setback. I was never going to be taken seriously or get a chance to work in a real company until I got some legitimate training.

2) What has been your personal favorite match so far?

—I am very fond of my match with Claudio Castagnoli from the 2006 edition of the Ted Petty Invitational.

3) Who have you had the most fun wrestling against and teaming with?

—Claudio brings out the best in me. I enjoy teaming with Jigsaw, or any of my trainees, really.

4) Have you ever been “star-struck” when meeting other wrestlers around the world?

—I was a little bit when I wrestled El Hijo del Santo. He has a magical presence about him.

5) How do you feel on the way CHIKARA is going?

—I think we are doing a great job of altering the accepted status quo in the wrestling business, and we’re doing it very quietly, but effectively.

6) With the upcoming King Of Trios, which team would you like to compete against more?

—I’d very much like to lock horns with the PWG or DDT teams.

7) If WWE offered you a contract, but it meant giving up working at CHIKARA, would you take it?

—I wouldn’t accept a WWE contract no matter what it said or stipulated. Even if Vince McMahon came over and agreed to wash my car and gave me the original Max Moon costume, I wouldn’t sign.

8) Who are your main “travel buddies” when going to different shows?

—Because most of my non-CHIKARA engagements involve flying rather than driving, I tend to travel by myself. It’s pretty rare that I road trip by car these days.

9) Have you ever gotten “stage fright” before a match, and how did you overcome this?

—I used to get that quite a bit. Just butterflies in the stomach, so to speak. But I probably haven’t experienced that in ten years or so. No one makes me more nervous to wrestle than Jorge Rivera, though. The odds of being able to go hold-for-hold with him are just about zero.

10) Do you ever see ******** fights coming into CHIKARA?

—Maybe a satire of the cliches of garbage wrestling, but that’s probably about it.

11) How do you feel on Ring Of Honor and their recent TV deal?

—It’s too soon to know how it will affect them. In two or three months, we might better understand what will come of it.

12) Who, out of your current students, could be the next star?

—Any and all of them, really. Each has their own unique potential.

13) If you could have one match against any wrestler, dead or alive, that you haven’t fought before, who would it be?

—I think I get asked this in every interview I’ve ever done, and I like to change up the answer. So let’s say Owen Hart this week.

14) Finally, what advice would you have for anyone looking to get into wrestling?

—Get trained by someone reputable, with good international contacts, unless you want to languish in obscurity for years and years. That’s what happened to me.

And now for some less serious questions asked….

15) Do you fear Chuck Norris?

—Of course.

16) Burger King or McDonald’s?

—McDonald’s. Not even close. BK is for jabrones.

17) Favorite band and/or song?

—I’m a big They Might Be Giants fan. Probably have more TMBG Cd’s than any other in my collection.

18) If you were President, how would you deal with the current economy crisis?

—I have never felt so ill-equipped to answer a question. Pass?

19) Have you heard about the bird?

—I have heard that the bird is the word.

20) Favorite Video Game?

—I love playing the Fire Pro series, and on my PC, I used to be addicted to a game called Freedom Force, a few years back.

21) Have you ever worn a Tutu?

—I am fairly certain I have not.

22) Favorite all time movie?

—That’s tough. I’m a big fan of just about all superhero movies, going back to the 1978 Christopher Reeve Superman film. I’ve probably watched “Glengarry Glen Ross” more times than any other movie. Maybe “UHF.”

23) Favorite TV show?

—I never miss an episode of “Lost.” I also really enjoy “The X-Files” and “Fawlty Towers.”

Well thank you very much Mike for your time, we here at TWG very much appreciate you doing this interview with us today. All the best to you this coming year with Chikara and with other matches you may have around the world.

Now just how great was that? But thats not all my readers, no, Ive been a busy bee and have secured another FOUR Indy Wrestlers for interviews. So in the coming weeks I shall be bringing you interviews with:

Shimmer & NWA Womens Champion, Ms Chif

CZW wrestler, and part of my last article, SeXXXy Eddy

CZW wrestler and BLK Out member, Sabian

Chikara wrestler and member of “Super Smash Brothers”, Stupefied / Player Dos

Though by the time you read this, the Ms Chif interview should be already done, but if anyone has ANY questions at all for the others, please leave a comment below and I shall do my best to ask them your question when the interview is done. I would like to thank you all for reading this week, my apologies for the delay in articles but I hope that the interviews more than make up for it.

Until next time…. this has been Hazed & Confused.

Carrie
